Festival Explores Literature and Belief

Wednesday October 9 2024

A celebrated author, a pop singer, scholars, a playwright and faith leaders are among the speakers at the fourth New College Festival of Books and Belief, in Edinburgh from November 7-9.

The festival includes 13 confirmed events across the three days, exploring the relationship between literature and belief. Speakers include Michel Faber (author of The Crimson Petal and the White) and Stuart Murdoch, lead singer of Belle and Sebastian, speaking about his new novel.

Biblical scholar Francesca Stavrakopoulou will speak about her work on the Hebrew Bible, and Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones on his new book ‘The Cleopatras: The Forgotten Queens of Egypt’. Church of Scotland minister Bruce Ritchie will discuss his book on the faith of James Clerk Maxwell, while Iain Stewart, executive director of Edinburgh Interfaith Association, will chair an interfaith panel event discussing peacebuilding, community and connectedness.

Some events are free, while the rest are priced at £10 (£7 concessions). A festival pass is available offering entry to all events.
