Church Takes Centre Stage at Book Festival

Monday November 18 2024

St Columba's Church of Scotland, London

Top writers including Alexander McCall Smith, Ian Rankin, Ann Cleeves and Chris Brookmyre are appearing at a new Scottish book festival in London kicking off next week.

The St Andrew’s Book Festival includes over 35 events, most of them taking place in St Columba’s Church of Scotland in Pont Street.

The festival begins on Monday November 25 with ‘A Spoken Word Stramash’ at Scotland House, featuring Hollie McNish, Jackie Kay and Liz Lochhead. Following that, most of the events take place in one of the spaces in St Columba’s. Other writers appearing include Lorraine Kelly, Judy Murray, and poet and columnist Len Pennie.

There will also be school events including writers such as Joseph Coelho, Mike Nicholson and Susi Briggs.

Festival week concludes with a service in the church with the Rev Neil Glover, author of the recent Finding Our Voice, followed by a conversation between Mr Glover and the Rev Scott Rennie, minister of London’s other Church of Scotland congregation, Crown Court at Covent Garden

The festival is run by Scots in London, an organisation bringing together Scottish organisations in the capital, including the two Church of Scotland congregations.
