Children’s bereavement charity Richmond’s Hope is asking supporters to leave messages of hope, along with donations, in this year’s Christmas appeal.
The charity, established at an Edinburgh church 21 years ago, helps bereaved children and young people develop healthy coping strategies through therapeutic play and tailored one to one sessions. This year, it says it has seen a huge increase in demand for its services.
The Box of Hope appeal is asking people to leave messages about things that bring them hope and comfort, especially at this time of year which can be difficult for a bereaved child. The messages of hope will be displayed along with messages from other supporters to offer inspiration to bereaved children and their families.
Donations to the appeal will be used to give children and young people the opportunity to share their stories and learn to work through their grief in a safe space with a trusted adult.
The service was established in Richmond Craigmillar Church, Edinburgh, in 2003 in response to a need within the local community and since then has grown to support about 300 children a year in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Glasgow and the West of Scotland, with part-time services in Methil, Fife and Dunbar, East Lothian.
