A renewed appeal has been made for elders and members of the Church of Scotland to serve on the organisation’s national councils and committees.
In an email to church members, the Rev Dr Andrew Gardner, convener of the Nomination Committee, said that the committee had been ‘pleased and encouraged’ by the applications they had received by people willing to serve from May this year. Applications will now close on January 24.
The Nomination Committee receives nominations for 23 different councils, committees and boards, including the Faith Action Programme, Social Care, Ecumenical Relations, Safeguarding, Theological Forum and Seeds for Growth. Around 40 vacancies are anticipated following this year’s General Assembly.
Dr Gardner wrote: “Serving nationally is a good way of getting to know the Church better, and engaging with others from across the country and beyond. While it needs commitment and can be time-consuming and demanding, it is a real opportunity to extend one’s Christian service and witness.”
