News of a breakthrough in palliative care training in China will be discussed at the annual general meeting and plenary of the Scottish Churches China Group (SCCG), in Edinburgh this Thursday.
The SCCG is an ecumenical organisation which includes representatives from the main Christian churches and fellowships in Scotland. It was founded in 1983 and works with Chinese partners on frontline health and education projects.
The group has been at the heart of the new initiative in palliative care, which is not yet a recognised medical speciality in China. A new training pathway, thanks to the work of Professor Max Watson of Hospice UK, which will incorporate Chinese cultural sensitivities as well as an up-to-date understanding of this specialist field, is now expected to start later this year in Shenyang in north east China.
At the AGM there will also be a report and photos from the SCCG’s Patricia Johnston's visit to China last year; as well as updates from UK partners, including the Scottish Bible Society, Friends of the Church in China and the Scotland China Education Network.
The AGM will take place at the offices of the Church of Scotland, 121 George Street, Edinburgh EH2 4YN, beginning at 10am on Thursday March 13. It will end with a buffet lunch.
