The Scottish theologian the Rev Professor David Fergusson will be among the panellists at an event in London marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day next month.
Organised by the Scots in London organisation and chaired by BBC diplomatic correspondent James Landale the event will discuss the historical significance of VE Day and its relevance today.
Professor Fergusson is the Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge, and was formerly Chair of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh. He serves as Dean of the Chapel Royal in Scotland and Dean of the Order of the Thistle. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the British Academy.
He will be joined on the panel by former Cabinet minister Sir Malcolm Rifkind and historian and author Professor Lucy Noakes, who is releasing her new social history about VE Day in May.
The event, on May 6, at 6.30pm, will take place in the Drill Hall at London Scottish House. Guests will be able to explore the permanent London Scottish Regimental Museum exhibits as well as a pop-up exhibition on VE Day.
Scots in London was established by Scottish organisations based in London – clubs, societies, charities, churches, regiments and government – to bring people together by running events and by co-ordinating and publicising the activities of members and other Scottish groups.
Tickets for the discussion are free. Reserve at Eventbrite.
