A call has gone out for contributions to online resources for this year’s Season of Creation.
Eco-Congregation Scotland is asking for reflections, sermon ideas, prayers and musical suggestions related to the lectionary readings during the Creation Time period, which this year includes the Sundays from September 7 to October 5.
Anything else on creation themes that could help a congregation or study group, including poems, cartoons, images or stories would also be welcome.
Season of Creation, otherwise known as Creation Time, Time for Creation, or Creationtide, is a time dedicated to prayer, worship and action for the care of God’s creation. It has its roots in a 1989 proposal by the Ecumenical Patriarch that September 1, the first day of the Eastern Orthodox Church, should be observed as a day ‘of protection of the natural environment’. Ten years later the European Christian Environmental Network widened the proposal to a season of creation from September 1 to the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on October 4, and since then it has been adopted by many denominations.
The Eco-Congregation invitation states that they are looking for ‘original, boldly and overtly green’ reflections. For a list of readings and full guidelines, visit https://www.ecocongregationscotland.org/season-of-creation-invitation/
Life and Work is the magazine of the Church of Scotland. May issue out now.
