Service Remembers Glasgow's First Archbishop

Wednesday May 7 2025

An ecumenical service dedicated to Archbishop Blackadder, the first Archbishop of Glasgow will take place this Sunday, May 11, at Glasgow Cathedral.

The event will celebrate in word and song the establishment of the city as a Bishop’s Burgh in 1175, visiting the Blackadder Aisle and St Mungo’s Tomb.

Civic and church leaders will participate in the service, part of celebrations of the 850th year of the City of Glasgow. There will be music from Andrew Forbes, musical director of Glasgow Cathedral, St Mungo Singers and local schools.

The service begins at 4pm.
