Our regular round-up of news received from churches

Dalmeny and Queensferry Parish Church has been named a recipient of the Eco-Congregation Scotland Gold Award, making it only the 12th congregation in Scotland to achieve this recognition. The award celebrates the church’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its active role in fostering community sustainability.

Assessors praised the congregation for its outstanding collaborative spirit and energetic involvement in environmental initiatives. Highlights of the commendation include:

The award recognises outstanding practice in caring for creation through spiritual life, practical action, and global awareness. This achievement highlights the church’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The work will continue with the church’s next initiative which is ‘The Great Big Green Week’. This starts with a Make do and Mend Café on June 7 in Queensferry Parish church and culminates on Friday June 13 with the Big Green Café in Dalmeny Church hall. Three elders of Tarbolton Parish Church, Margaret Kerr, Hannah McNae and Jim Jamieson have been presented with Long Service Awards for 30 years, while Maureen McNae was recognised for 30 years as Session Clerk. St John's Kirk, Perth continues to enhance its visitor offering, with three new information sheets. In addition to the existing laminated guides to the Kirk in the main European languages, information on the historic building is now available in Portuguese, Mandarin and in Braille, the latter courtesy of the Scottish Braille Press. The Kirk is open to Monday to Saturday, 11am-4pm, until the end of September.
