To help churches engage with the terrible suffering happening in Gaza and Iraq, Christian Aid has produced some resources to help Christians reflect, pray and act.
The suggested readings, prayers and reflections, available on the charity's website, include a Prayer for Iraq based on Psalm 46 and a prayer written by the former Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem, Rt Rev Riah Abu El-Assal.
Claire Whitmore, Christian Aid’s Church Resources Manager, said: “With such sad and harrowing scenes of suffering on our screens it’s easy at times to feel helpless and overwhelmed.
“Coming together and bringing this suffering to God is important but knowing the right way to do this can sometimes be hard.
“We hope Christians find the resources we have made available useful in allowing them to reflect and pray in an informed way which can encourage them to shape their actions and thoughts.”
Christian Aid is working through partners in both emergencies, and is asking churches to hold a collection for those in need. The resources for Iraq can be found here, and for Gaza here.
