Prayers for Peace in Israel and Palestine

Wednesday September 24 2014

Prayers will be said tonight in Greyfriars Church, Lanark for peace in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

The vigil, from 7-9pm, is part of a worldwide prayer movement, in which Christians are urged to pray for peace in the Middle East on or around the 24th of each month.

The Church of Scotland has joined the movement with Christian Aid and the Scottish Episcopal Church, in partnership with the worldwide ACT Alliance.

Future events will be held in East and Old Church, Forfar on October 22 and Elgin High Church Hall on November 24.

This week is also World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel (WWPPI). Resources have been developed by an ecumenical group in the UK, including the Church of Scotland, so churches can hold their own events praying for peace in the region.

The theme of the week is ‘Let My People Go’ and includes an online petition to the United Nations ‘calling attention to the plight of Palestinian political prisoners and Israeli conscientious objectors who are held in Israeli jails’.
