Reward offered for return of Moderator's cross and ring

The Church of Scotland has offered a four-figure reward for the safe return of the Moderator's ring and cross (pictured), which went missing from a bag at Edinburgh Airport on April 5.

A 'substantial reward subject to specific conditions' has been offered for the return of the historic ring and cross, worn by each Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

Appealing for the return of the items, the Moderator, the Rt Rev Albert Bogle said he hoped the offer would lead to the safe return of both items.

He said: “I urge those responsible for taking these items, and accept this may have been done in all innocence, to look at themselves in the mirror, and see in their reflection that the right thing to do would be to return them as soon as possible – even anonymously.

"Please understand these are not my own items, the jewellery and cross are of significant historical importance and belong to the Church of Scotland and through that, the nation itself. We are praying that these articles will be returned in the very near future."
