New Telling of the Story of Saint Andrew

Friday November 28

A new children’s ebook telling the story of Scotland’s patron saint has been released.

The Saint Andrew of Patrick Small’s book is first seen sprinting through his fishing village to catch his grandfather’s boat before he sets off; later he goes to watch John the Baptist and then Jesus preaching, before Jesus appears in his village to call him Andrew as an Apostle.

It later goes on to the Feeding of the 5000 and Jesus’ death, before Andrew’s work in Acts and his own crucifixion. It also recounts the legend of St Regulus’ voyage with Andrew’s relics, and how Andrew became connected with Scotland.

Patrick a former teacher and journalist from Edinburgh, says: "I wanted to imagine what he would be like attached to a fishing community, with people who knew him and loved him.

"The Feeding of the 5000 has always been a very important story to me, and I think it's peculiarly modern if you look at what's going on in the world, with starvation in various countries and foodbanks here. It's a very clear message of solidarity with your fellow man and woman."

The book has manga-style illustrations and includes narration by TV presenter Neil Oliver, as well as some interactive games. It is available from iTunes and Amazon.
