Dr Neil Wilson, great-great-grandson of Dr David Livingstone, with the commemorative stamp sheet at the David Livingstone Centre in Blantyre
The stamps feature ten 1st Class Scottish Flag stamps alongside images showing key moments from Livingstone’s life. These include the cotton mill where he worked from the age of ten, his medical work as one of the first doctors to treat malaria with quinine, his Zambezi expedition, and his interment in the nave of Westminster Abbey, almost a year after his death.
Dr Neil Livingstone Wilson, David Livingstone’s great-great-grandson, said: "The new commemorative series of stamps from Royal Mail capture the truly remarkable life of Dr David Livingstone in a succession of singular occasions. The set offers a ‘mini-biography’ of achievements; exploits that enthralled the people of the time and became woven into the tapestry of history - a common history shared by people of Africa and Livingstone’s own country."
The Commemorative Stamp Sheet costs £14.95. It is available in main Post Offices, online and from Royal Mail Tallents House, 21 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh, EH12 9PB (call 08457 641 641).
