Wednesday September 23
Prayers for peace were said at places of worship across Edinburgh during an inter-faith Peace Walk on Saturday.
The walk followed a similar event held last year for the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Around 50 people, some carrying a ‘refugees welcome’ banner, began at the Edinburgh Hebrew Synagogue and visited Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches, the Central and Annandale Mosques, the Samye Dzong Buddhist Temple, the Baha’i Centre and the Guru Nanak Gurdwara before finishing with refreshments at the Hindu Mandir.
Iain Stewart, General Secretary of Edinburgh Interfaith Association, who organised the event, said: “It was a remarkable day with people, many on their first inter-faith trip, deeply moved by the warm welcome shown to them on the trip and the friendship and solidarity enjoyed on the walk. People are already asking us about our plans for next year’s walk.
“I hope this example of friendship and solidarity is an example that others can learn from across the world.”
