Church and Christian Aid Begin Lent Journey

Wednesday February 11

The Church of Scotland has teamed up with Christian Aid Scotland to produce daily reflections for Lent.

Beginning today with an Ash Wednesday offering from the Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rt Rev Dr Angus Morrison, the reflections will include prayers, reflections, images and video from Christians across Scotland and all over the world.

"The season of Lent is a special time in the Christian year," says Dr Morrison.

"Lent marks the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert as he contemplated his own spiritual and earthly journey and strengthened his commitment to the mission he was sent to earth to achieve. Lent culminates with Holy Week and the story of Christ's supreme sacrifice, offering up his own life so that we might be saved.

"It's good then that as Christians we take time during Lent to reflect on our own spiritual journey and deepen our faith and trust in God.”

Kathy Galloway, Head of Christian Aid Scotland adds, "It is the calling of Christian Aid to accompany the wilderness journey of Lent; to hold out the possibility of another way, the way of justice, the way of faith, hope and love."

The first video is available on the Church of Scotland’s Lent web page.
