Swing Band Service Raises £400

Wednesday April 27

The Heart and Soul Swing Band led the worship at a joint service for three Edinburgh churches on Sunday night (April 24).

The last of the  Night Light Services, organised by Morningside, Greenbank and Fairmilehead Parish Churches, focussed on the Church of Scotland’s HIV Programme and the work of Christian Aid. Over £400 was raise on the night.

The Rev Dr Derek Browning, Minister of Morningside Parish Church said: “What I love about worship is its great variety. On Sunday morning we were enjoying music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and William Walton, and in the evening enjoying a jazzed up version of the 100th Psalm and a bluesy setting of ‘Amazing Grace’.

"It was a delight to welcome the Heart and Soul Swing Band, and I know many people will look forward to hearing them again at the Heart and Soul event on May 22 in Princes Street Gardens.”

The services have previously featured a focus on mental health issues, the music of Taizé, World AIDS Day and the Psalms of Lament.
