The annual Armed Forces Day service was held at St Michael’s Church, Dumfries on Sunday June 26.

Special guests (pictured left to right with representatives of the church and uniformed organisations) included Commodore Bob Williams, Emma Harper MSP; Joan McAlpine MSP; Provost of Dumfries, Councillor Ted Thompson; the Rev Dr Maurice Bond, Jennefer Tobin of the charity SWS RnR; Jamie Blackett, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Dumfriesshire; historian David Dutton and Richard Arkless MP.

Crimond and Lonmay Churches in the Presbytery of Buchan welcomed the Very Rev John Chalmers, Principal Clerk to the General Assembly, and his wife Liz to a weekend of celebration for the two churches on the weekend of June 17-19.

Mr Chalmers met with the office bearers of both churches to look at solutions to their lengthy vacancies (14 and 16 years respectively).

On the Saturday he opened and dedicated the new Church Hall at Lonmay, opened the annual strawberry tea and planted a tree in memory of the late Andrew Buchan, a founder member and latterly captain of the St Combs Boys Brigade.

Then on Sunday he ordained four new elders (three at Crimond and one at Lonmay), and presented long service certificates to six elders at Lonmay.

The whole weekend was described as 'a great success'.

The new Marlborough Sanctuary at Broomhill Church in Glasgow was dedicated by the Moderator of Glasgow Presbytery, the Rev Tom Pollock. He is pictured (left) with the church minister, the Rev George Mackay.

Robbie McNally is pictured being presented with gifts on his retiral after serving more than 30 years as beadle of Ballantrae Parish Church, in the Presbytery of Ayr. His father John McNally (who can be seen in the photograph being presented as part of the gifts) was also beadle of the church for a similar length of time. The photograph includes Robert’s niece Elizabeth Nelson, son Colin McNally (who is the church treasurer), minister the Rev Stephen Ogston, new beadle Eric Peacock and Claire Strain, Session Clerk.
