Call for Advent Calendar Champions

Tuesday October 4

The makers of the Real Advent Calendar, which tells the Christmas story, are appealing for ‘champions‘ in schools, churches and groups to generate interest.

With research showing 36% of 5-7-year-olds don’t know whose birthday is celebrated at Christmas, The Meaningful Chocolate Company (who also produce the Real Easter Egg), say that the chocolate advent calendar is a fun way to share the Christmas story.

This year's calendar (right) features a Christmas scene and includes a 28-page activity book, designed to be used every day during advent, both illustrated by the award-winning artist Alida Massari.

All the cocoa and sugar used in the chocolate is certified Fairtrade, and each sale includes a donation to the Funzi and Bodo Trust (which supports education and health services in Kenya) and Traidcraft Exchange. Last year, £15,000 was donated to the two charities.

They also have other Christmas products including a box of 12 champagne truffles – one for each of the Twelve Days of Christmas – and Host of Angels tree decorations.

The advent calendar, priced at £3.99, will be available in larger Tesco stores, some independent retailers and through Traidcraft. You can also order in bulk directly from the Meaningful Chocolate Company’s website, which also includes resources, posters and printable order forms.

There is free delivery for orders placed by November 1, and a 10% discount for school orders.
