Bible retellings by one of the world’s most popular storytellers have been repackaged this Christmas, and are released next week.
The three volumes of stories by Enid Blyton originally appeared in magazines and anthologies from the 1940s and 1960s.
Hodder Children’s Books have collected them into illustrated gift editions, covering the New and Old Testaments and Blyton's version of John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress. Each features the original text and introductions by Songs of Praise presenter Pam Rhodes.
Enid Blyton remains one of the world’s best-selling children’s authors, with sales in excess of 500 million copies. She is regularly voted the UK’s best-loved author and sells more than one book a minute in the UK. According to UNESCO, she is the most translated children’s author in the world, with books translated into over 40 languages.
She said she considered Jesus Christ ‘the greatest figure the world has ever seen’ and ‘a perfect hero, just fearless and merciful’.
The three books - The First Christmas and Other Stories, Noah’s Ark and Other Stories, and The Land of Far Beyond, are published on November 3.
