Six surprise guests attended the celebrations to mark the retirement of the Rev Liz Fisk from St Ninian’s Church, Dunfermline.

The church has a successful twinning with the congregation of the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren in Orlova, Czech Republic; and the minister and five members of the Czech church were invited to take part in the retirement parties.

Three events were held altogether, and among the gifts was a specially-commissioned glass plaque depicting the tree of life, with each branch bearing an element of the church’s ministry which has been established during Liz’s 20 years there.

Above: Liz is pictured (centre), with her husband Dennis (third left), St Ninian's session clerk Faye Buchan (front, far right), Orlova minister the Rev Stephan Janca (back, far right) and the rest of the Czech contingent.

Ladies of the Bengairn Parishes Church Guild, in the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright, have been engulfed in a sea of red recently as they knitted and crocheted poppies for sale to the congregation and friends. They have so far raised more than £116 for Poppy Scotland.

Last month saw a celebration in honour of Francis (Frank) Wilson, as he marked 45 years as an elder, 28 years at Torthorwald and a further 17 years following the union of Kirkmichael, Tinwald and Torthorwald Churches.

To mark this milestone a rededication service took place in Tinwald Church, near Dumfries, when Frank was presented with a long service certificate by locum minister the Rev Mhairi Wallace.
