During a Service of Ordination and Induction at Barvas Church of Scotland on February 3, the Rev William Macleod was presented with a congratulatory letter from the Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rt Rev Dr Russell Barr, to mark 60 years in the ministry.

Mr Macleod was born in 1926 and came to faith during the Lewis Revival of 1949.  He was licensed by the Presbytery of Uist in April 1956 and ordained and inducted to the Pastoral Charge of Benbecula in January 1957. He moved to UIg, Lewis in 1964 and ministered there for 42 years before 'retiring' at the age of 80 in 2006.  He remains active in retirement, regularly preaching in island pulpits.

The 167 Anchor Boys, Junior Section and Company Section and Girl Guiding in St Andrew and St Nicholas Church, Glasgow held a Gift Service in December to help poor families in the area struggling in the approach to Christmas.

With all the organisations of the church contributing, the young people managed to gather 100 bags of food for local foodbanks, and two car-loads and two minibus-loads of toys for Children First.

The Service was on Wednesday December 7, and volunteers from the nearest foodbank and Children First came along and explained to a packed church how many homes would benefit from the donations and how many homes would be filled with laughter, food and toys on Christmas Day.

“It is wonderful to read of what the young people of St Andrew and St Nicholas Church in Glasgow achieved to support families in need.
This is the kind of news which should be featured in the national media.
