Forth Bridge Abseil Raises £26,000

Wednesday May 31 2017

Sunday’s abseil in aid of the Church of Scotland’s social care work, including the ‘Three Formers’, has raised more than £26,000.

The Very Rev Dr John Chalmers, Very Rev Dr Russell Barr, and Peter Bailey – respectively the former Principal Clerk, Moderator of the General Assembly and Chief Executive of CrossReach – were joined by 15 other CrossReach supporters abseiling the 165 feet down the Forth Bridge.

The total raised by the Three Formers currently stands at £11,040 (smashing their initial target of £3000 and the revised aim of £10,000). A further £10,500 has been raised online through the Leap of Faith page, and around £4000 has been raised offline. At last week’s General Assembly, Dr Chalmers announced that £700 had been donated by Commissioners.

The money will go to support the work of CrossReach – the Church’s social care arm – with young people and families.

Speaking afterwards, Dr Barr said: “Thank you to all the CrossReach sponsors, thank you to all the church people who have contributed so generously.”

Dr Chalmers added: “We have had great fun jumping, so why don’t you try it next year for CrossReach?”

You can still donate at the Three Formers and Leap of Faith pages.
