A number of hardy Pilgrims braved the heavy rain in Culross, Fife, on Saturday May 20 to participate in the second event commemorating the 800th Anniversary of Culross Abbey.
Led by Roger Pickering, the group followed a historical route around Culross taking in the old hospital, the ruins of St Mungo’s Chapel and several narrow paths, to finish at the Abbey where the Tea Room provided a welcome shelter from the elements.
They also viewed the outstanding “Monks’ Life” display inside the Abbey in which all elements including the monastery, the hospital, sleeping quarters and even the market garden are all knitted! This display was created by Interim Moderator the Rev Liz Fisk and six colleagues, and is proving to be a real attraction to locals and tourists alike.
The next event in the 800th Anniversary celebrations is a free concert in the Abbey on Wednesday June 14 at 7pm by the Dunfermline Choral Union and the Dunfermline Junior Chorus.
Eight elders at St Machan’s Parish Church in Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, were presented with long service certificates last month.
Isobel Begley, Elizabeth Cowan, Andrew Cunningham, Graham Duncan, Davina Revie, Jim Richardson, Jan Smart and Joe Williamson are pictured with minister, the Rev Alastair McKillop and George Downie (far left), who was admitted to the eldership on the same day. The remaining elder, Liz Cowan, was unable to attend the service.
