SU Scotland Anniversary Service

Tuesday September 5 2017

Scripture Union Scotland is to hold a service celebrating SU’s 150th anniversary in Edinburgh next month.

The service is the climax of a year of celebration events sharing thankfulness to God for all that has been done by Scripture Union since 1867, particularly in Scotland, and for the organisation to look forward and commit itself afresh.

Other events have included a beach mission in Fife in July, a celebration of international ministry at the Lendrick Muir outdoor centre and a 150th Celebration for the north in Inverness.

Scripture Union began with a meeting of 15 young children, led by Josiah Spiers, in the home of Thomas Hughes in Islington, London, on June 2 1867. By the end of the year they were meeting in a school-house, and the following summer Spiers held his first beach service when he told Bible stories to children on the beach in Llandudno, North Wales. The first camp was held in 1892.

The Edinburgh service takes place in the Charlotte Chapel, 58 Shandwick Place (the former St George’s West Church) at 2.30pm on Saturday October 28. Everyone is invited and there will be refreshments after the service.
