Former Moderator to Challenge Disability Attitudes in Annual Lecture

FORMER Moderator, the Very Rev Dr John Chalmers will challenge negative attitudes about disability at an annual lecture in Edinburgh later this month.

Dr Chalmers, who served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland from 2014 to 2015 and retired as the Church’s Principal Clerk to the Assembly, will deliver the annual Donald Gorrie Lecture at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church in George Street, Edinburgh, on Tuesday October 31 at 7.30pm.

In a talk entitled ‘… that’s how the light gets in’, Dr Chalmers will seek to challenge attitudes about disability and believes sharing the lives of people who are ‘differently-abled’ should change preconceptions of ‘normal’.

The annual lecture was established in memory of the Liberal Democrat MSP and former councillor Donald Gorrie, who was an elder in the Church of Scotland and died in August 2012 at the age of 79.
