Patron Announced for Annual Christian Aid Book Sale

                                                                                                                                                                        Monday April 9 2018

A CELEBRATED artist and writer is to be this year’s patron of the famous annual Christian Aid Book Sale at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church in Edinburgh.

John Byrne, author of the Slab Boys trilogy, is to be patron of the 2018 sale, which will open on Saturday May 12 and then continue from Monday May 14 until Friday May 18.
The sale, which has been running annually since 1974, has raised over £1 million for Christian Aid in the last decade. It has grown to include antiques, collectables, pictures, records, postcards and stamps.
Announcing details of the sale, Sale Convener Mary Davidson said she was ‘delighted’ to announce that the playwright and artist had agreed to support the annual sale.
She added: “This year, Christian Aid Week will focus on the millions of people around the world who have been forced to abandon their homes, whether through natural disaster or conflict. More than 40 million are displaced within their own countries, including Nigeria, South Sudan, Colombia, Bangladesh and Iraq. Christian Aid is working with partners worldwide to provide food, shelter and lifesaving support for those who desperately need it.”
