A Prayer for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Friday June 3 2022

“And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6:8

O God our loving heavenly Father

Every now and then in life we come across someone whose life quietly and humbly, consistently and wisely has made a difference in our lives and whose abiding influence inspires us.

So do we give you thanks for the life and witness of our gracious Queen Elizabeth, for her serenity and wisdom over so many years, for her deep and abiding sense of compassion and of justice, for her shining integrity and courage and cheerfulness amidst the many challenges and blessings of her life well lived and of her duties and responsibilities well served.

We call to mind with gratitude those times when her life and example has touched us and inspired us, whether in a Christmas Message of hope and encouragement, or her wise experienced words in a national crisis, or in a quiet word which we may remember for the rest of our lives.

Above all, we thank you for her strong Faith, her relentless Hope and her unconditional Love, which has inspired her life of calm selfless leadership to ‘act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God’ and so to fulfil that which the Lord has required of her service, here at home and across the Commonwealth and the wider world.

May we in our lives be further encouraged and inspired by her example to live lives of purpose and of meaning in the service of others and so to ‘cross the road’ for those who may need us more than we can ever know or imagine.

In the strong name of her Good Samaritan and ours, even Jesus Christ our Lord, we pray.

Amen.
