Church of Scotland Speakers at Homelessness Seminar

Monday August 19 2013

Two Church of Scotland speakers are among the contributors to Scottish Churches Housing Action (SCHA’s) annual seminar, to be held at the Renfield Centre, Bath Street, Glasgow, on Friday October 4.

The seminar, entitled Churches and Homelessness – a reflection, will bring together people leading and working in volunteer activities to help homeless people; church members and leaders; housing and care professionals and students.

The Rev Richard Frazer of Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh will tell the gathering about the Grassmarket Community Project, a charity established by his congregation which works with the homeless in the area; and the Rev Sally Foster-Fulton, convener of the Church of Scotland Church and Society Council, will address how churches challenge the structures that lead to homelessness and exclusion.

The other speakers are Lt-Col Iain Barr of The Salvation Army, exploring the biblical and historical roots of today’s commitment to tackling homelessness; and Grant Campbell of Glasgow City Mission describing his work with homeless people in the city.

Alastair Cameron, Chief Executive of SCHA, said:“I’m delighted to have assembled this eminent cast to help us reflect on the motivations and realities of tackling homelessness in Scotland in the 21st century. We will reflect on how we got to where we are today, celebrate the churches’ commitment, and look at how we can continue to campaign for justice for homeless people.”
