NEARLY 150 children enjoyed an annual summer club themed around the Hollywood blockbuster ‘The Greatest Showman’ at a church in Motherwell.

A total of 147 children were registered for the week-long club at St Mary’s Parish Church from July 23 to 27. An average total of 114 attended every day to enjoy the ‘Greatest Show’, themed around the film.

A team of 56 people oversaw games, crafts, music, circus items, magic and a daily time of worship led by the Rev Bryce Calder, minister at the Church.

The aim of the week was to teach young people about the importance of accepting others regardless of difference and the inclusion of all into the family of the church.

Members of Forfar East and Old Parish Church and their minister travelled to Switzerland on July 13 to take part in 500th anniversary celebrations of the Reformation of Churches in Europe.

They worshipped with host churches in Dubendorf and Schwerzenbach near Zurich along with parties from Germany and Hungary.

The photograph shows members in Wildhaus, at the timbered birthplace of Ulrich Zwingli, father of the Swiss reformation in the 16th century- a contemporary of Martin Luther, John Calvin and John Knox.

The minister at Forfar East and Old, the Rev Barbara Ann Sweetin is pictured fifth from the right.
