Pizza and movie welcome at Lanark churches

                                                                                                                                    Tuesday September 3 2013

CHURCHES in Lanark have come together to encourage local people to find out more over a pizza or a movie.

Based around the 'Back to Church' initiative, all five churches (Church of Scotland, Catholic, Episcopalian and Congregational) in the Lanarkshire town have united in an ecumenical initiative during September to encourage the community to visit local churches and find our more about their work.

Around 10,000 leaflets have been delivered to homes in and around Lanark highlighting the events taking place during the initiative, which begins this Saturday, September 7. Events include a 'pizza and praise', movie night and reflective worship.

The Rev Bryan Kerr, minister at Lanark: Greyfriars, said: "The churches in Lanark have had a long tradition of working together to promote join working and joint worship. We wanted to take the opportunity to invite people to come to church."

He added: "The churches agreed that it didn't matter what church people attended during the initiative as long as we worked together to invite people. What is important is that people are able to experience the love of God during the events."

The initiative will conclude with a joint Songs of Praise service on September 22, featuring a joint ecumenical choir and the Coalburn Silver Band. Learn more about events in Lanark here
