AN illustration from the best-selling book The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency is among the items for sale in the Christian Aid Art and Scottish Books Sale at an Edinburgh church.

Author Alexander McCall Smith is pictured with the illustration by Iain MacIntosh which will be available in the annual sale at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church later this month.

A first and limited edition of The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency will also be among the items available at the sale.

James Holloway, Convener of Pictures for the sale, said: “We have some excellent new paintings which have been recent donations, including a lovely watercolour, Quails Eggs', by Christian McArthur and a 19th-century painting, Loch Tay by Tom Campbell. We also have previously undisplayed paintings by Alan Victor, the associate of textile-supremo Bernat Klein.”

The sale will also include more books as well as pictures.

The church, which hosts the UK’s largest Christian Aid book sale, has already given £95,000 to the charity this year and promised to donate more by the end of the year.

The sale takes place at the Church in George Street, Edinburgh from 10am to 3pm on October 24 to 26.
