The para-athlete and TV presenter JJ Chalmers is speaking at an Edinburgh church next week.
The former Royal Marine, who suffered life-changing injuries when he was caught in an IED explosion in Afghanistan 2011, is delivering the Donald Gorrie lecture at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church on Tuesday November 19.
JJ, who went on to win a gold medal as a recumbent cyclist in the Invictus Games before becoming a presenter with the BBC and Channel 4, will be speaking on ‘Waking from a nightmare – to living the dream’.
The event has been rescheduled from earlier in the year, when JJ had to postpone for health reasons.
The lecture series is in memory of the former Liberal Democrat MP and councillor Donald Gorrie, who was a Church of Scotland elder. JJ’s father, the Very Rev Dr John Chalmers, Convener of the Church of Scotland Assembly Trustees, delivered the lecture in 2017.
The talk starts at 7.30pm, and entry is free. Refreshments will be provided.
