'Unusual Kindness' Theme for Week of Prayer

Wednesday January 15 2020

Next week’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has been given the theme ‘Unusual Kindness’.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is traditionally observed from January 18-25 – the octave of St Peter and St Paul. Each year resources are produced by Christians from a different part of the world.

This year’s materials have been prepared by the Christian churches in Malta and Gozo (Christians Together in Malta) and takes as its text the account from Acts of the Apostles of St Paul’s Shipwreck on Malta and consequent arrival of the Christian faith on the islands (which they usually celebrate on February 10).

The materials reflect on the call to Christian hospitality and to loving encounters with those who do not share our language, culture or faith, as exemplified by the encounters between Paul and his companions, and the islanders who showed them what Paul calls 'unusual kindness' after the shipwreck.

Resources for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2020 are available in hard copy or download from Churches Together Britain and Ireland. They include daily reflections plus an order of service.

The order of service is also available through the Weekly Worship section on the Church of Scotland website, including hymn numbers from the Church Hymnary.
