Free Course on Ministry in Lockdown

Monday May 11 2020

A free six-week course from Trinity College, Glasgow, will explore ministry during the coronavirus covid-19 lockdown and its aftermath.

With disruption to regular church life set to continue for many months, Glasgow University’s Trinity College is launching ‘Distanced Ministry in Disruptive Times’. This online ‘community of practice’ will bring together ministers and deacons of the Church of Scotland to discuss both spiritual and practical issues of ministering in a situation of social distancing and where many will still have to self-isolate.

Among the topics covered will be online worship, the sacraments, funerals, pastoral care, children and youth ministry and mental health. Each session will include a scripture reading, sharing of challenges and how they are being addressed, reflecting together on practice and theology, exploring strategies for the way forward, and encouraging prayer for each other.

The 90-minute sessions will be hosted by the Rev Dr Doug Gay, principal of Trinity College, and the Rev Dr Mark Johnston, tutor in pastoral studies.

“hi i was wondering why it was only being offered to ministers and deacons as their are some members of church still doing pastoral care and worship online for their own church members and others that are doing online worship sessions on a weekly basis ”
