A Christian youth conference on the Isle of Lewis is to go ahead virtually later this month.
The Awakening Conference is organised by the Youth Team in the Shed Project at Martin's Memorial Church in Stornoway. The inaugural event was held in 2019, but a planned follow up last year had to be cancelled due to the first Covid-19 lockdown. This year, the organisers have decided to hold an online gathering over the weekend of March 26-28.
The main speaker is Tim Alford, National Director of Limitless. There will also be worship, seminars, a Q&A session, opportunities for group discussion, a virtual café and a prayer team available by phone.
Organiser Matthew MacNeil, who is also one of the speakers, said: "Last year we cancelled our Awakening Youth Conference due to the whole nation going into lockdown and this past year has certainly been a challenging time for many. With this in mind, rather than postponing our conference for another year we recognised the opportunity that running our conference online would bring to invite more young people to attend and experience the reality of the event from the comfort of their own homes.
“The theme of this conference is 'Move' as we are believing that as much as we are waiting for God to bring a fresh Move of His Spirit, He is inviting us to partner with Him so He can Move in and through us. We aren't limiting God to needing this conference to be in person, but we are praying and believing that God would move powerfully throughout this weekend in signs and wonders in the lives of the young people who attend. We are asking God ‘When are you going to Move?’, but what if He is asking us the same question?”
The conference is aimed at anyone aged 12-18, and costs £10. Youth leaders can attend free of charge. For more information and to book, visit www.awakeningyouthconference.com
