Does Minister Have the 'Nativity Factor'?

Wednesday December 4 2013

An Aberdeenshire minister has entered a national film competition to tell the Christmas story in a different way.

The Rev Paul McKeown of Belhelvie Parish Church in Balmedie has submitted a short film to ITN and Jerusalem Production's 'The Nativity Factor'.

Mr McKeown's entry, entitled “Incarnational Homespun Blues”, is a play on the Bob Dylan song “Subterranean Homesick Blues”. Shot in black-and-white, it sees him discarding placards with the lyrics on, just as Dylan did in the original. The tongue-in-cheek video is intended to be a witty but faithful telling of the story through music and rhyme.

Entries in four categories - adult, youth, child and Vine (using the Vine mobile phone App) - are shortlisted by public voting this week. The shortlisted videos will then be judged by a panel including Olympic athlete Christine Ohuruogu and the winners announced on December 17.

Mr McKeown said “The standard of the entries this year seems high and though I’d love to win I had a lot of fun working on the project. If other folk get to watch it, or use it in Christmas services, then I’ll be more than happy.”

To see the entries and vote, visit the Nativity Factor website before Monday December 9.
