2013 marks the 500th birthday of the early Protestant reformer, George Wishart.
Wishart, who was burned at the stake aged 33, helped popularise the teachings of Calvin in Scotland and John Knox was a disciple. It was partially the brutality of his death that gave power to the Scottish movement towards a Reformed Church; it is in part thanks to him that we have a Church of Scotland today.
To commemorate his life and his influences six of the top Professors of Reformation History have reviewed that period and the life of George Wishart. They are holding a one-day conference at the University of St Andrews on Friday, August 30.
