The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland was joined by other church members in walking the Glasgow Kiltwalk at the weekend for Christian Aid.

The Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields, who completed the Wee Wander event, has bettered his target of raising £1000 for the international development charity, bringing in donations of £1220 so far.

Speaking before the event, Dr Greenshields said that he was inspired to walk for Christian Aid by his peace pilgrimage to South Sudan in February: “ I was grateful for the opportunity to meet Christian Aid’s South Sudan team in Juba and hear more about the peace building work they’ve been involved in but also the vital humanitarian assistance they are delivering to families impacted by extreme poverty and malnutrition.

“Walking is a favourite hobby of mine and though, due other commitments this Sunday, I’m only able to complete the shorter three-mile distance, I’m looking forward to it.”

In total 24 people took part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk for Christian Aid this year, including interim Head of Scotland Val Brown, who completed the 22 miles of the Mighty Stride with her family and has currently raised nearly £800.
