Book Sale Raises £80,000

Tuesday July 11 2023

The 2023 Christian Aid Week sale at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church in Edinburgh raised £80,000, the organisers have revealed.

A cheque was presented by the church’s locum minister, the Very Rev Dr Angus Morrison, to Val Brown, head of Christian Aid Scotland, on Sunday.

In a letter to supporters, Andrew Hawdon on behalf of the steering group paid tribute to over 170 volunteers who helped to set up and run the sale this year. He said: “Each generously and cheerfully giving of their time, energy and expertise towards the success of the Sale… Old friendships were revived and new created – truly a team effort. Our thanks go to all these friends, many of whom have mentioned the pleasure of talking to the visitors from all over the country.”

This year was the 50th anniversary of the sale which has grown into one of the largest charity sales in the UK. The patron for 2023 was James Robertson, the Scottish poet and novelist, who visited the sale and presented first editions of his books.
