A church organist from Kirkcaldy has been presented with a certificate marking 60 years of service.

Ian Ogilvie started his playing career as organist in in 1963, in the EU Congregational Church in Commercial Street, then took up the post of organist and choirmaster at Sinclairtown Church, later to become Viewforth Parish Church after uniting with Gallatown. In 1988, he moved on to Kirkcaldy Old Kirk, and remained there until 2001, when he took up his current role as organist at Linktown Church.

The Rev Graham Deans thanked Ian for his loyal and dedicated service over the years.

A North Lanarkshire church raised over £1000 in two charity events within seven days.

The first event at Bellshill Central Parish Church was a coffee morning, where two members of the HOPE for Autism team visited to talk about the work they do in the area. £262 was raised.

That was followed by a Big Sing Songs of Praise in aid of Leprosy Mission Scotland, a joint venture with Newarthill and Carfin Church. The churches’ two organists took part and each directed the combined choir. The event raised over £700.

The churches of Hamilton South and Quarter had a day of thanksgiving and celebration as a total of eight people were admitted by profession of faith.
