'Strength for the Journey' Theme for Prisoners Week

Monday October 16 2023

Prisoners Week 2023 starts on November 19 with a service at Letham St Marks Church, Perth.

The theme of this year’s week is 'Strength for the Journey'. The guest speaker at the service will be Caroline Bambirra, Social Transformation Pastor at Catalyst Vineyard Church in Aberdeen.

Churches and organisations will be invited to sign the Prisoners Week Charter, in support of those affected by imprisonment and helping to raise awareness of the impact of the justice system on families and communities.
There will also be an opportunity to speak with charities and organisations working in Scotland’s prisons.

Prisoners Week has been running since the 1990s, but was formalised in 2012 with the formation of the Prisoners Week Trust. Trustees come from a range of religious backgrounds and include prison chaplains, the Head of Corporate Affairs at the Scottish Prison Service and a former Chief Inspector Prisons for Scotland, among others.

The Trust’s vision is ‘for a just and peaceful society where all people are cared for and supported be they prisoners, the families of prisoners, those released from prison or the victims of crime.  Through Prisoners Week we want to encourage action and support, particularly among communities of faith, for all those affected by imprisonment.’
