Call for Volunteers for Church Committees

Tuesday December 12 2023

A fresh appeal has been made for members of the Church of Scotland to serve on the church’s central committees.

The Nomination Committee, which is tasked with bringing names for the committees to next year’s General Assembly, has said that it currently does not have enough people nominated to fill all of the expected vacancies. The deadline for nominations has been extended to Tuesday January 9.

The Rev Dr Andrew Gardner, convener of the Nomination Committee, has written to ministers and Session Clerks urging them to help and encourage anyone who may be interested. There are vacancies on the Assembly Business, Ecumenical Relations, Ethical Oversight, Safeguarding and Life and Work Advisory committees, the Social Care Council (CrossReach) and Theological Forum, among others.

Dr Gardner writes: “Serving nationally is a good way of getting to know the Church better, and engaging with others from across the country and beyond. While it needs commitment and can be time-consuming and demanding, it is a real opportunity to extend one’s Christian service and witness.

“Might you or someone you know be willing to volunteer to serve in this way? We depend on you and others spreading the word and actively encouraging involvement.”

There is more information on the work of the Nomination Committee on YouTube and the Church of Scotland website, where you can also find the Nomination Form.
