A programme of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the present East Kilbride Old Parish Church sanctuary in 1774 began on January 14 with a visit by the Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rt Rev Sally Foster-Fulton, who preached the sermon at tthe Sunday morning service. This was followed by a congregational lunch in the church hall when the Moderator presented Long Service Certificates to eleven elders and leaders.

An ambitious nearly half a million pound project to renew Eyemouth Parish Church's building has been completed. The renewed space has flexible seating, more eco-friendly heating, improved accessibility, kitchen and hospitality facilities and an accessible toilet.

The work will relieve pressure on the church hall, which is heavily used, and allow holiday clubs and existing groups to accept higher numbers.

The project was first proposed following a review in 2016, and the money was raised, despite Covid-19, by 2022. Funds came from the congregations itself, other local churches, the Fallago Environment Fund, National Lottery Community Fund, Garfield Weston Foundation and the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland. The work began at the start of last year and the contractors left just in time for Remembrance Sunday in November.

The minister, the Rev Andrew Haddow, said: “The main church building is now a fabulous, welcoming and flexible space.  We're excited to be showing it off to our community, to be dreaming together of what might happen in this renewed space and for the church to use this space to help provide those in need within our community with much-needed support. However none of this would have been possible without the community's support and we are very grateful for all those who supported this work.”
