New Platform for Thinking on Faith and Policy

A new website has been launched to provide a platform for discussions of faith and public policy in Scotland.

Mercat Cross has been established by the thinktank Logos Scotland to mark 25 years of devolution in Scotland. The first three articles published, written by academics and an independent church pastor, are on the topics of assisted dying, art and life, and why Christians should speak into the public square.

Shona Haslam, Chief Executive of Logos Scotland, said: “The Scottish political scene has developed over the last 25 years since devolution but is still in many ways young. We have a strong third sector and well-established Parliament, but not many avenues for public debate or think tanks providing critical friendship to governments and political parties. The Mercat Cross, along with Logos Scotland is seeking to provide that space where Christians can come together, discuss, be challenged, learn and engage.

“We are really excited to launch Mercat Cross, marking 25 years of devolution.  We hope it will become a space where Christians of all denominations can share their thinking and views on issues of public debate in Scotland today.  Healthy debate is core to our democracy and society.”

Contributors have been invited to submit articles on issues they are passionate about, and submissions to the website are welcome.
