Blythswood Care's oldest volunteer, Mary Mackay, cuts the ribbon on the new shop, watched by Blythswood Chief Executive James Campbell, Stewart Nicol, Chief Executive of Inverness Chamber of Commerce, and shop manager Graham Scott.
The former car showroom on Harbour Road now offers a wide range of furniture, clothes, books, bric-a-brac, toys, bikes, tools and sports equipment.
Blythswood’s operations manager Ian Matheson said: “Our experience shows that people love larger charity shops with good parking. Our first superstore at Evanton has been a great success. These new premises on Harbour Road allow us to offer the same service to people in town.
“You can see some of the goods on offer in our superstores by going to ‘Blythswood Care Shops’ Facebook page. And we’d love to hear from potential new volunteers to help run the shop and to sort donated goods on the premises.”
Having a convenient car park makes it easier to donate goods as well as to browse the aisles. And three textile banks allow clothes and small items to be easily deposited out of hours.
The new outlet is in addition to Blythswood’s Academy Street shop which continues to offer a select range of clothes, furniture and other goods to shoppers in the old town.
Both shops contribute to the Christian organisation’s social care projects at home and abroad. Blythswood currently runs four foodbanks in the north of Scotland and is planning to open a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Easter Ross. Chief executive James Campbell said: “Blythswood is unique in that we are a UK-wide charity based in the Highlands. We really appreciate the support of donors and shoppers in Inverness.”
