London Church to Host Referendum Debate

Tuesday March 25 2014

St Columba’s Church of Scotland in London will tonight (Tuesday) host a debate on the forthcoming Referendum on the future of Scotland.

Iain Watson, both a Scot and BBC Political Correspondent, will chair a panel of speakers representing both sides of the issue.

Better Together will be represented by the Secretary of State for Scotland and Shadow Secretary, Alistair Carmichael MP and Margaret Curran MP, with the Yes campaign being represented by Angus Robertson MP, Leader of the SNP in Westminster and Tony Banks, Scottish entrepreneur and Yes campaigner.

The panel will be asked to respond to questions from the audience (over 450 already attending) and contributions will also be taken from invited guests including a number of Scottish born MPs, Members of the House of Lords and representatives of industry, commerce and education with interests in Scotland.

The Rev Angus MacLeod, Minister of St Columba’s, said: “St Columba’s is a home away from home for Scots in London.  Whilst no longer living in Scotland, we all retain strong links and have family there.  We are passionately interested in the future of Scotland and this debate will allow us all to be better informed about the issues currently featuring so highly in the media.  It promises to be a very interesting and lively evening.”

The debate takes place in St Columba’s Church of Scotland, Pont Street, Knightsbridge, London, SW1X 0BD at 7.30pm.
