Keane Wallis-Bennett, who was 12, died after an internal wall at the school collapsed on her.
The Church of Scotland’s Liberton Northfield church will be open this afternoon and evening as a safe place for fellow pupils, young people and the local community to go and reflect. They will have the opportunity to sign a book of condolence and light candles. The church will remain open in the coming days for as long as the community require a place to go.
The Rev Cammy Mackenzie, who is a minister at Moredun and Gilmerton and a member of the chaplaincy team serving the local schools, said: “Liberton Northfield church will be staffed by members of the school chaplaincy team, local ministers and church volunteers. If required, they will be able to offer counselling, or simply a listening ear for anyone who needs someone to talk to. We recognise the impact this is having on the community and we will be there for anyone who needs us. The church will remain open for as many days as it is required.”
