Edinburgh Churches Demonstrate Love of Music

                                                                                                                                                       Wednesday April 9, 2014

TWO Edinburgh churches have demonstrated their love of music in two very different ways.

Barclay Viewforth Church in Bruntsfield is staging an organ recital with Dr John Kitchen on June 20. The recital with the internationally acclaimed musician, who is City Organist at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, is part of a series of celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of Barclay Viewforth Church, which boasts its own three-manual organ.

A spokesman for Barclay Viewforth said: "Known as a brilliant recitalist throughout Britain, Europe and abroad, Dr John Kitchen is particularly renowned for his 'Get Organised' recitals which he gives in his capacity  as City Organist at the Usher Hall."

Tickets for the event will cost £5 and are available at the church on the night or can be pre-booked by email at admin@barclayviewforth.org.uk The recital will begin at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, St Andrew's and St George's West Church has commissioned a new work from composer Andrew Carvel for Lent and Easter 2014. The work, Seven Last Words, was launched in the church choir's Concert for Passiontide on March 30 and will be repeated on Good Friday, April 18, while excerpts will feature in Holy Week meditations.
