Muddy Minister

Wednesday June 11 2014

A minister got muddy to raise funds for the redevelopment of one of his churches.

The Rev Sean Swindells of the Parish of Newbattle undertook the 10k (six mile) Major Series Obstacle Race at Cardross Estate, Port of Menteith.

Sean Swindells covered in mud after completing the Major Series Obstacle RaceThe obstacles include crawling through a muddy ditch to avoid the low barbed wire, wading through thick glutinous mud,  slithering through narrow tunnels and under low bridges, climbing over hay bales whilst being doused with water and foam, running up steep hills not to mention avoiding electrified wires and crossing a river over a wobbly platform.

In doing so, he raised over £2000 for the Cornerstone Project, which involves the internal redevelopment of Mayfield and Easthouses Church to create a community café, a children’s soft play facility plus flexible meeting space than can used for a wide variety of purposes for community groups and Sunday services.

The Parish of Newbattle, in Lothian Presbytery, includes three churches: the 18th century Newbattle Parish Church and more recent Mayfield and Easthouses and Newtongrange.
